The frozen law of Universe 2

The world is not fixed. Every location has a shallow column of ground: immutable bedrock underneath, a conserved layer of movable substrate on top, and ecological cover above that. An organism can excavate one exposed unit of substrate, carry it while it walks, and deposit it somewhere else - so shallow water can be filled in and land can be cut down, and the map you are watching is the current map, not the one this universe was founded with. Matter is conserved exactly: nothing appears anywhere without coming from somewhere else. Organisms receive no construction objective, no build command and no reward for shaping anything; whether evolution discovers useful environmental modification at all is an open question, not a promise. Ground disturbed by digging does not stay a bare scar - ecological succession lets it recover appropriate cover over time, while the underlying shape it was left in can persist. Unlike the candidate worlds that preceded it, this ruleset is not under test: it is frozen for the life of this universe. What this universe is, and how it differs from the first.

Six things worth knowing before you watch

Each of these is checkable. Every card links to the page that shows the working, because a claim you cannot follow up is just a nice sentence.

Nothing here is trying to do anything

There is no score, no goal and no fitness function anywhere in it. Nothing ranks an organism or tells it what a good outcome looks like. Organisms pay energy to exist, find more or stop, and selection is whatever that leaves behind. Why that changes what you are looking at.

It halts rather than pretend

Energy is counted in seven audited reservoirs, every tick. If the books do not balance, the universe stops instead of carrying on with numbers that no longer mean anything. An invariant that can halt the world cannot quietly stop being true. See the accounting.

You can open the brain of something alive right now

Select any organism and read its actual controller: its real sensory values, its internal state and its action outputs, for that individual, on this tick. Not a diagram of how it works in general. That creature. What the panel is showing you.

The environment outlasts the organisms

Ground is conserved and can be excavated, carried and put down elsewhere, so every hole is a mound somewhere. In the live universe that has gone far enough to join two islands the world generator kept apart, and to sink a fifth of the land it started with. That is not building, and the difference matters. The strait that closed. What was actually measured.

Everyone is watching the same world

There is one authoritative world running at a time, advancing on a server whether one person is watching or nobody is. Your browser is a window into it, not a copy, and nothing you do in it changes what happens inside. How that is guaranteed.

The failures are published too

One candidate world went extinct at tick 2042 and was re-run offline with instruments attached to find out why. Another ruleset missed its own pre-registered survival threshold and was sent back. Both are written up in full. Everything that has gone wrong.
